About Us – History Of Lionsville

Lionsville Retirement Community and Essendon Terrace are projects of the Lions Club of Essendon aimed at providing quality accommodation and care in a secure environment for independent seniors.

As a Lions Club initiative both Lionsville and Essendon Terrace embrace the ethics and objective of Lions Clubs International, a service club with a long and proud history “to serve”.

Lionsville Retirement Village opened it doors to the elderly who were in need of quality, affordable accommodation in October 1966 when the first 12 singles units where occupied.

Such was the demand for this type of accommodation that within 14 years the number of singles units grew to 114, including 13 units for couples.

The Lions Club identified the development of the units as a project which fitted the purposes of Lions – to create and foster understanding, promote good government and citizenship, to fund and serve the community, to assist people in need, to unite and work with other clubs, to provide a forum for discussion and to encourage people to serve the community.

As a major project of the Lions Club of Essendon, Lionsville’s proud history stands as testimony to the spirit and selfless of the 100’s of volunteers involved in it operation over the last 45 years, and Essendon Terrace will proudly continue this tradition.
